The capital of Namibia retains much of its German architecture. The railway station (1912) is Cape Dutch and houses a wonderful collection of preserved locomotives, rolling stock and various ephemera. The restaurants are thoroughly recommended if you are wanting an intriguing mixture of German and game food (both fish, venison or a variety of steaks - if it swims, runs or flies, and has made the mistake of tasting good, it should be eaten). At least a couple of days can happily be spent here getting a sense of the city.
